III. The Journey Begins
A New Beginning

At the age of 15, Leo made a life-changing decision: to emigrate to the United States. Convinced that this was the best opportunity to prosper, he left his home in Hidalgo, Mexico, despite his parents' concerns. Along with his father, José Pablo, he arrived in the state of Florida, where they began a new life in a rented room.

Hard Work in the Fields

In that room, with a bunk bed where Leo slept on the top bunk, began one of the most challenging yet formative periods of his life. What initially seemed like just a piece of furniture became the refuge for many tears after long, exhausting days working in the orange fields. For a 15-year-old, the work was grueling, especially since the ladder he used to climb the trees was heavy and difficult to manage.

However, fatigue and adversity were never enough to stop Leo in his pursuit of a better future. After two years in Florida, Leo and his father decided to return to Mexico. Back in Hidalgo, Leo realized that the money he had saved was still not enough to start his dream of opening a textile business.

Return to California

But this setback did not discourage him. Instead of giving up, he began working in the textile industry, gaining experience and learning more every day. However, his entrepreneurial spirit drove him to return to the United States at the age of 19, this time to California, specifically to the city of Lodi.

Discovering the Vineyards

In California, fate led him back to the fields, but this time to the vineyards of Napa Valley, where he discovered his true passion. His first employer, a renowned global wine company, would later become one of his clients as his career progressed. From the very beginning, Leo was drawn to work in the vineyards, and over time, he became more involved in viticulture.

Building Community

Leo has always been a generous person, deeply committed to his community. When he noticed that many of his co-workers in Napa lacked transportation, he decided to take action. Along with his brother José Luis, he bought an old van to transport his colleagues to work, giving them the opportunity to earn an income for their families.

Learning from Francisco

By the age of 20, Leo had already become an expert in agriculture in California. His first mentor, Francisco Soto, taught him how to operate tractors and the trucks used in fieldwork. Thanks to Francisco's guidance, Leo was able to partner with him and start working with different agricultural producers.

Diverse Crops

However, his true passion still lay in the vineyards. As his business grew, Leo not only focused on vineyards but also found new ways to generate employment during slower seasons, working with crops like tomatoes, plums, peaches, pears, and olives in various regions of California.

Family & Work

In just a few years, Leo managed to create jobs for nearly 400 people, an impressive feat for someone so young. His success was not a product of luck, but the result of hard work, dedication, and discipline. Today, his name is synonymous with perseverance, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to the well-being of his community.
